Volunteer Internship: Communications and Digital Media Summer Intern

Dates: June 1, 2022 through August 31, 2022; 20 – 30 hours per week
Internship is remote with periodic Zoom update meetings 
Internship is unpaid; Rensselaer Land Trust will provide reporting for academic credit as requested

Internship Description:

Rensselaer Land Trust (RLT) is a county-wide, nonprofit land trust that protects land and operates public nature preserves throughout Rensselaer County, New York. Our missionis to conserve the open spaces, watersheds and natural habitats of Rensselaer County for the benefit of our communities and future generations. 

RLT seeks a volunteer summer intern to support an plein air art exhibition and sale. RLT will invite regional artists to its public preserves during the summer of 2022. The artists will create plein air paintings and drawings onsite at the preserves. Each artist will donate one or more artworks to RLT for a benefit auction that will take place on September 26, 2022. The intern will work with the artists and RLT staff and board members to schedule the plein art painting sessions, create an online sales catalog, prepare videos about the artists, and otherwise promote the exhibit and sale. The intern will be supervised by RLT’s Fundraising and Communications Associate. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications and social and digital development. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a website to host a digital catalog for donated artworks.
  • Coordinate and produce video interviews with artists.
  • Design and execute event marketing materials such as flyers, posters, social media graphics, and web content.
  • Create and schedule social media content and monitor online traffic.

Qualifications:

  • Current student enrolled in a college or university, preferably majoring in marketing, communications, journalism, PR andadvertising, or website design.
  • Must reside in or near New York’s Capital region.
  • Comfort working in a virtual setting, including managing concurrent tasks with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong website and database design competency.
  • Social media connoisseur with strong understanding of the digital media landscape,including various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, andYouTube) and social media analytics
  • Design skills with a sharp attention to detail and experience in creating
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, iMovie, and YouTube or other accessible design and movie editing software.
  • Creative, collaborative, flexible, and eager to learn.
  • Own a laptop, smartphone or other low-tech video recording equipment.
  • Provide own transportation.
  • Physical Demands: walking nature trails and occasional bending, stooping, and lifting of event materials.
