Staff Biography

JohnWinterJohn Winter, Kingston
Executive Director

John joined RLT in June 2017. Previously he served as executive director of two land trusts in New York where he focused on protecting new lands, stewardship, and community conservation. His role at RLT is to grow the organization and engage people of all ages in land conservation in Rensselaer County.

John also has experience in sustainable finance, corporate social responsibility, and public housing. He has worked for a major corporation, the US government, an environmental research organization, and has founded several consulting practices on biodiversity protection and climate change.

John holds a masters degree in resource economics and policy from Duke University’s School of the Environment and a B.A. in accounting and history from Muhlenberg College. He is married and has a college age daughter.

John enjoys hiking, gardening, astronomy, and music on vinyl records.

 

 

JulieMooreJulie Tabbitas Moore, Rensselaer
Communications and Fundraising Associate

Julie joined Rensselaer Land Trust in October 2012 as a part­-time employee. With over 20 years in the nonprofit field, Julie’s professional experiences include communications, fundraising, public relations, and graphic design.

After receiving her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2000, Julie began her career supporting a regional arts organization located in the Adirondack Mountains. In 2005 she moved to Ithaca, NY, where she held a position Cornell University working in communications and program development. She also served as a volunteer docent for Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology. Since relocating to the Capital Region, Julie has had the opportunity to work for Environmental Advocates of New York and Saratoga Springs Public Library.

Julie enjoys exploring new hiking trails and birding spots with her family and gardening.

Steward Coordinator

Marcos joined Rensselaer Land Trust in April 2021 as the Stewardship Coordinator. Prior to joining RLT, Marcos coordinated events and volunteers in his role as Outreach Ambassador with the Clearwater Conservancy in State College, PA.
 
After graduating from Penn State University in 2019, Marcos joined the Americorps VISTA Program. During his time with Americorps VISTA he participated as a community volunteer and discovered RLT through a few volunteer opportunities hosted by RLT.  Currently, Marcos holds a full time position at Seed Solar and Engineering, where he designs and installs solar systems, both residential and commercial.
 
In his free time Marcos, enjoys being outside, playing basketball, and traveling.
