Expanding Parking at Featherweald Nature Preserve in Buskirk

Parking sign 4.14.21 sm

Featherweald Nature Preserve opened to the public in October 2020 and since then has become a very popular destination. So much so that we had to expand the parking there. In the past few weeks, our preserve stewards and neighbors Angelynn Cerridwen and Gary Sytsma, Marcos Velazquez, our new Stewardship Coordinator (see above), and RLT Board President Bob Crowley, added a new parking area next to the white cottage in the lower part of the preserve. They also added new signage. We thank them for their hard work on very short notice. We also thank Stewart's Shops for the grant they provided to help us buy the materials for the project. We ask that on your next visit to Featherweald you use the new lower lot if you find that the upper lot is full. And for your safety, and the safety of the community, we ask that you do not park along Route 59 or in the neighboring driveways.

Part of Featherweald Nature Preserve is closed during the Great Blue Heron's nesting season (Febraury 1 August 31). Dogs are prohibited at this preserve to ensure the herons continue to feel safe in their nesting territory and return next season. Thank you for helping us keeping this unique area protected!
